Upcoming Sunday Services:

March 2010

March 7 – Wes Davis

Wes Davis is an educator, musician, writer and speaker with a broad range of interests and life experiences. He earned his Master of Divinity degree from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. and served as a United Methodist pastor for thirteen years. Currently he is a full-time musician performing mostly in the Ocean City, Maryland area and an adjunct faculty member at Salisbury University in the Communication Arts Department.

March 14 – Getting Through the Night John Wright

The Dark Night of the Soul (La Noche Oscura del Alma) is the title of a poem written by 16th century Spanish poet and mystic St John of the Cross.  Everyone, at one time or another, faces their own “dark night of the soul”, experiencing great struggles- financial, emotional, or spiritual.  In this service, John Wright will look at some of these struggles and suggest some tools we might find useful to “get through the night”.

John received his Master of Divinity degree from the Starr King School for the Ministry, the Unitarian Universalist Seminary in Berkeley, California.  His particular field of specialization is pastoral care surrounding death and loss.  John now serves as Consulting Minister to the UUFS.

March 21 – 7th Anniversary Observance of the U.S. at War: Nuclear Nonproliferation for the Future of Humanity Harvey Zendt

Representing the Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation, educator and social activist Harvey Zendt will keynote the 7th Anniversary Observance of the U.S. at War, cosponsored by PALS and UUFS.  A Potluck for Peace will follow.  The observance will continue at the 2:00 – 3:00 P.M., PALS Silent Peace Vigil, on the corner of Route 13 and College Ave.

Mr. Zendt will review the strategic, moral, economic and environmental reasons why the removal of nuclear weapons from the planet is critical for our survival.  A Quaker native of Philadelphia, Mr. Zendt received his B.S. in Psychology from Trinity College and M.S. in Education from the University of Pennsylvania.  He has taught English, history and science, coached youth and held various administrative posts, lastly that of Founding Headmaster at Saint Anne’s Episcopal School, in Middletown.  After thirty-five years in education, running schools in Pennsylvania, Oregon and Delaware, he has “a fire in his belly,” to devote time directly to the environmental and peace movements.

For the past two years, Harvey has worked with the Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation in outreach and development, educating the public about this crucial year in the abolition of nuclear weapons.  He and his wife Louisa have three children and reside in Townsend Delaware.

March 28 – Rev. Gabriele Parks

UUFE’s new settled minister, Gabi Parks, is interested in slow, steady growth and in spreading the good news of Unitarian Universalism.

Her highest priorities in ministry are worship, adult religious education, and pastoral care. Above all, Gabi wants to be the “glowing ember” of the congregation — without her, it would be hard to start a fire; but without many logs (i.e., congregants), no fire can be started at all.

Raised a Catholic, Gabi is personally familiar with a wide range of UU theologies. Her spiritual journey includes secular Humanism, Neo-pagan spirituality, and Buddhism. Additionally, humor and the connection between science and religion are two important themes characterizing her ministry.
