May 13 – The First Mother- Celebrating Mothers of All Kinds
John Wright
What do we think of when the phrase “First Mother” comes to mind? Is it the Biblical Eve? Or the proto-human “Lucy”? Or perhaps Pele, Mother-goddess of Hawaii? In this “Mother’s Day” service, John will think about what it means to be a “mother” and how “First Mother” relates to our UU Principles.
John received his Master of Divinity degree from the Starr King School for the Ministry, the Unitarian Universalist Seminary in Berkeley, California. John now serves as Consulting Minister to the UUFS.

This Sunday’s “Plate” will support the Salisbury Salvation Army.
The Salisbury Salvation Army has operated in Salisbury since 1913 providing spiritual, emotional and material assistance to those in Wicomico, Worcester and Somerset counties, including supplying thousands of families with food, clothing, shoes, rent and utility assistance, holiday food baskets, and hot meals. Over 1,500 children receive new toys under their Christmas tree program. The Senior Center offers activities designed specifically for men and women aged 50 and above while the Youth Club includes football and baseball plus a Games Room, Sexual Abstinence Program, and arts & crafts. Interfaith Alliance celebrates religious freedom by championing individual rights, promoting policies that protect both religion and democracy, and uniting diverse voices to challenge extremism. Interfaith Alliance was created in 1994 to celebrate religious freedom and to challenge the bigotry and hatred arising from religious and political extremism infiltrating American politics. Today, Interfaith Alliance has 185,000 members across the country made up of 75 faith traditions as well as those of no faith tradition. Interfaith Alliance promotes legislation that protects the boundaries between religion and government, so that politics doesn’t infringe on your faith and matters of faith don’t infringe on your freedom.
