Minister’s Musing – Fort Hood

Dear Ones- As we all know, the terrible tragedy at Fort Hood, Texas has been receiving a great deal of media coverage.  Particularly, there has been much focus on the fact that the alleged gunman was Muslim. In light of this, and because I have been in contact with the local Muslim community through our [...]

“We must dare to love.”

In the most recent edition of UU World, the newly elected president of our denomination writes that : “The true challenges before us are spiritual.”  The first great test, he says, is “whether we are willing to let go of those things in the past that no longer serve us”.  And the second is “can [...]

“Let Us Live Into Our Dreams….

Dear Ones- This quotation by Margaret Keip is one I dearly love- “What we withhold from this moment, We withhold from ourselves and from the world. What we deny in this moment, We deny to ourselves and to life. And only what we give do we ever get to keep. So, dear friends, let us [...]

Welcome back…

Dear Ones: Do you remember when you were a child, anticipating the first day back to school after summer vacation?  I certainly do, though it was a million years ago.  Like all children, as June approached I couldn’t wait for school to end and I loved summer vacation.  But as August wore on, I began [...]

The gathering commemorated what was without a doubt a terrible tragedy.

“Go forth in every direction…

by John Wright, M.Div. Minister My pastoral thought for the day: Go forth in every direction- For the happiness, the harmony, The welfare of the many. Offer your heart, the seeds of our own understanding Like a lamp overturned and re-lit again, Illuminating the darkness. -The Buddha

Leap of Faith

By John Wright, M.Div., Minister In reflecting on last week’s “Leap of Faith” sermon, I’m reminded of this quotation from “Faith Without Certainty” by Paul Rasor:  “Doubt is always an inherent part of faith…Religious liberalism has always to some extent involved faith without certainty.”  It reminds me that we are, in fact, inheritors of a [...]
