Minister’s Musings – May 2021

Dear Ones- Our pledge packets have gone out!  If you haven’t received one, please let Karen know at  We depend on your financial support.  Without U there would be no UU!

Our theme for the month of May is “Curiosity”, and with that in mind, I’ll be leading a 4 week curriculum called “Starting Point”.  While, as the name implies, it is designed with new members in mind, it is NOT a “new member” class.  It is a way of gathering that is based on the concept of a “UU path”. Inspired by the classic UU slogan, “deeds not creeds,” Starting Point presents “Unitarian Universalism as a particular way of journeying through the world rather than a set of beliefs to which one assents.”  Most of us- whether we’ve been members for a while, or are completely new to Unitarian Universalism, are not so much looking for an organization to join(who needs another one of THOSE!) as searching for companions to walk with on this journey of life.

If you are new to Unitarian Universalism, or to our congregation, Starting Point will give you an opportunity to learn about both our congregation and what UU is all about(even if you’ve transferred from another congregation!).

If you’ve been around for a while, Starting Point has a lot to offer long-time members as well. As our journeys take new or unexpected turns, we all find ourselves looking for new kinds of companions. If you’re a long-timer but never participated in a small group, then Starting Point is the perfect place for you. Likewise, maybe you’re a long time member or friend looking to fall in love with UUFS and Unitarian Universalism all over again. You can consider Starting Point a great opportunity for a spiritual “re-start.”

We will share stories, learn about one another, and gather some insights into this faith.

We will, in truth, satisfy our curiosity! (See what I did there?)

Membership in UUFS is not required, of course.   As we say each Sunday, “whoever you are, wherever you’ve come from, whomever you love, wherever you are on your spiritual journey, you are welcome here”.  Please join us!

We’ll do 4 sessions via Zoom- May 9, May 16, May 23, May 30 at 2pm.

If you’d like to join us at our Starting Point, please let me know( so that I can send out a “Participant Packet” to you.

Wishing you peace and blessings,

Rev John
