Fifth ANNUAL FREEDOM FUND BANQUET
Salisbury…. Wicomico County Branch #7028 of the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People will hold its 5th Annual Freedom Fund Banquet
on Saturday October 2, 2010 at noon at the First Baptist Church Family Life and
Cultural Center (corner of Booth and Delaware Streets).
The banquet speaker is Dr. Thelma B. Thompson, president of the University of
Maryland Eastern Shore. Smooth jazz entertainment will be provided by ‘Jheno
Connections.’
Dr. Thompson will address the theme: ‘Embracing Family, Instilling Education,
and Ensuring Economic Security for All.’ She is a highly sought after speaker
and active educator, Dr. Thompson was recognized by Essence magazine in 2005
as one of the “Women Who are Shaping the World.”
She also was named one of the “100 Most Important Blacks in Technology”
by the Black Engineer and Information Technology Magazine. In 2009,
Dr. Thompson gave the September 2009 commencement address for Walter
Sisulu University for Technology & Science (WSU) in South Africa and
was conferred the honorary doctoral degree of literature and philosophy.
