In Memory of Scott Bednar

Dear Ones,

One of the newest members of UUFS, Scott Bednar, died on Wednesday July 21, 2010. There will be a “visitation” time at Halloway Funeral Home from 2  to 5pm on Saturday, July 31, 2010.
Please plan to stop by and pay your respects to his family.  He was a fellow pilgrim- a “born again” UU (he’d been raised as a Unitarian Universalist, and had “found” us again after many years)  He left us far too quickly, we’d scarcely begun to know him.  Some of us hadn’t yet even met him.  And now we will never have that chance.   In some ways, for me that makes his loss even greater.

Pope John Paul II writes: “It is suffering more than anything else, which clears the way for the grace which transforms human souls”.

May Scott’s family and those who loved him find peace and grace, though these may feel far away at the moment.

  • It was a nice visitation. Although we will not get to know Scott more the photo presentations gave us a glimpse of the rich and fulfilling life Scott had.

His son and my daughter are starting at Bennett High School this fall. It was a poignant moment to see my daughter expressing her condolences to his son. Scott’s physical presence has left us but his influence on our world continues.

We were able to attend the visitation in memory of Scott. What a tribute to his life, having so many there that deeply loved and respected him. I spoke with his brother briefly, as well as his ex-wife. You could feel the depth of their loss.
I had spoken with Scott a few months ago and he expressed his interest in assisting with Religious Education this coming year. I believe that he would have been a wonderful asset, working with our kids.
We will miss you, Scott. You will forever live in our hearts.
